Cars in Germany's City Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Officers mentioned they were contacted by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for information.

A senior political figure said the incident rendered him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
